The left sidebar is the main way to move around InsightLens. You can collapse it to a narrow icon bar with the chevron button at the top right of the sidebar header.
On macOS, the top of the sidebar leaves room for the traffic-light window controls and is draggable — you can grab it to move the window.
Quick Insights
Two shortcuts at the top of the sidebar jump straight to filtered views of the dashboard:
- Trending Up — units whose experience scores have improved semester-over-semester.
- Need Attention — units whose scores have slipped.

- Dashboard — high-level summary of your database. See Dashboard Overview.
- Units — searchable, filterable list of every unit in the database. See Browsing & Filtering Units.
- Performance Reports — full top-performers and needs-attention lists with exports. See Performance Reports.
- Promotion Suggestions — units whose track record supports a promotion case. See Promotion Suggestions.
- Ask InsightLens — natural-language chat over your survey data. See Asking Good Questions. A small dot next to this item shows your AI connection status (green = connected, red = not connected, amber = checking).
- Import — drag-and-drop PDF import. See Importing Survey PDFs.
- Documentation — what you’re reading right now.
- Settings — database location, AI provider, general preferences.
App info
At the very bottom of the sidebar, an InsightLens vX.Y.Z button links to the About page. The version number is read directly from the running app, so it always matches the installed release.
